Mathew 18:21-22, “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven.”
According to scripture how many times do we need to forgive? Jesus wants us to forgive as many times as it takes. Some might say easier said than done, and you are right but in order for us to be free we must make the choice to forgive. For myself, it was years of sexual, physical abuse, and the worst was no emotional affection of love. Growing up I was given the best of material possessions but it meant nothing without love. Forgiveness is not an emotion or feeling but you will know if you have truly forgiven someone when you no longer want revenge on that person.
Think of someone who you find hard to forgive. Ask God for a heart of forgiveness.
Forgiving the person doesn’t make them right or justify what he/she did. Forgiveness releases them into God’s hands. Remember, forgiveness opens your heart and mind, and allows the Holy Spirit to work freely in you.
Matthew 5:43-44 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
