Day 15

back to Fasting Section

Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord. . . .

2 Chronicles 20:3-4

Jehoshaphat feared – He was afraid of the huge army that was coming , knowing they couldn’t defeat them on their own , he knew they needed the strong arm of God. They needed extraordinary help so they needed extraordinary strategy. He asked everyone from Judah to come pray and fast together ..

And the people gathered themselves together- A public fast was declared it wasn’t something they had to do but they wanted to come together in unity as they began to ask the Lord for His help.

Jehoshaphat and all of The people set themselves to seek the Lord- As they humbled themselves. there was a Relentless Pursuit , a Seriousness, and Earnestness in it, knowing without the Lord there was NO VICTORY . v. 4 ampc version, “They came to seek the Lord yearning for him with all their desire “

Meaning of Yearning – deep longing, urgent, strong desire, intense.

What a strategy the Lord has given us to come together all around the world and pursue our Heavenly Father, with a Relentless Pursuit and set our hearts toward him. We will see the strong arm of the Lord move in every prayer target we present before Him .  Just as Jehoshaphat knew we can’t do this on our own, we need the mighty hand of God..

Every man of Judah and Jerusalem returned with Jehoshaphat at their head, returning to Jerusalem with joy, for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies. v. 27

In these last days we see the enemy coming like a strong force in many different ways so we MUST come together in unity, earnestly seeking him knowing that we need the strong arm of our Mighty God.

We cannot take this time of prayer and fasting together lightly.. there must a yearning within us.
