“Relentless In His Service”
1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV)
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immoveable, always abounding
in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
In the previous verses of chapter 15, Paul expounds on the doctrine of the resurrection and how important it is as a believer to understand the resurrected life we now live, and how our life on earth will bring glory and honor to God and a reward in heaven for our labor.
Paul asked the Corinthian to do 3 things in verse 58.
- To be steadfast – Is to be strong, like seated and planted on something that is solid, firm, and safe. We need to stand our ground and not be shaken, like getting worked up or disturbed by the temptations and cares of life. It’s about being secure in our faith!
- To be immovable – This is a stronger expression from steadfast, let nothing shake your faith in who you are in the Lord; let nothing move you away from hope in God and His word which is given to you I, like the influence of others that don’t believe.
- To always abound in the work of the Lord – The work of the Lord is obedience to His holy word. Every believer is a workman of God, always engaged in doing His will; in promoting His glory, and advancing His kingdom. The phrase means not only to be engaged in this, but to be engaged diligently, laboriously; excelling in this work.
Your labor in the Lord is not in vain; you must not only work, but you must labor! Labor in the Lord – under His direction. The resurrection motivates us to do His work and those who come to grips with the resurrection, do more than what is required in serving the Lord.
Remember UWIM, the work you do in the kingdom of God will bring results that will last forever into eternity.
Philippians 3:10 (NIV) I want to know Christ–yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.
In these 40 days of fasting and praying, I believe the Lord is going to challenge us to a deeper walk in serving Him and in doing the work of the ministry in our churches. May His promises be fulfilled through your life in bringing glory honor to His name.
