In 1962, a young heroin addict named Sonny Arguinzoni walked into a Teen Challenge center in New York City. Reached by David Wilkerson and Nicky Cruz, he became the first drug addict saved through the program — miraculously healed from a six-year addiction.
"We didn't have a building, a budget, or a plan. All we had was a calling and a living room full of drug addicts who needed Jesus."
Five years later, Sonny and his wife Julie opened their East LA home to addicts from the Aliso Village housing projects. That act of radical faith became Victory Outreach — now spanning 700+ churches across six continents. Pastor Sonny was honored by multiple U.S. Presidents and earned the title "Godfather of inner city ministry" before his passing in March 2025 at the age of 85.
